Jill Swindells of QUAL Consultancy
Person-centred qualitative research consultant, facilitator, counsellor/psychotherapist & 'Pre-Trial Therapy' trainer.
"QUAL Consultancy was born out of my concern to manage the research & therapeutic processes better for research participants & counselling clients, respectively; to bring the essence of the person-centred counselling approach to my qualitative research practice &, conversely, research informing my counselling practice - working more collaboratively, empathically & transparently; to create a more supportive relationship & reaching greater depths - where others may fear to tread; also, to embrace the often marginalised or excluded members of our society, such as the vulnerable or hard to reach in qualitative research, & the disempowered or disenfranchised in counselling/psychotherapy."
QUAL Consultancy Services
Person-centred qualitative research
& facilitation
QUAL Consultancy offers subcontracted freelance interviewing, moderation & facilitation for market & social research agencies, independent research consultants & organisations involved in public consultations.
I work collaboratively with research participants using a person-centred approach & my counselling experience with relevant client groups. I specialise in research involving sensitive & personal issues as well as with vulnerable & hard to reach individuals/groups.

My volunteering experience, counselling practice & ethics inform my research.

Person-centred counselling & psychotherapy
Person centred counselling services on a sub-contracted self-employed basis - currently with a sexual abuse counselling agency & another which supports those attending a public inquiry. As a therapist, I have a special interest in Pre-Trial Therapy (PTT).
I bring 40 years experience in research & volunteering, working with people from all walks of life to counselling.

My qualitative research & volunteering experience informs my counselling practice.

Pre-Trial Therapy (PTT) training & resources
I have a special interest in 'Pre-Trial Therapy' - counselling/psychotherapy which follows the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) guidance for working with adults & children who might appear or are appearing as victims of crime in criminal courts (CPS, 2022) in England and Wales (CPS, 2022).
I offer Pre-Trial Therapy Training throughout England & Wales - this includes full day workshops, shorter online intro/refresher training, PTT resources & a blog about PTT related issues & recent media coverage in the criminal justice system arena.

My qualitative research & volunteering experience originally sparked my interest in PTT.
More about Jill
Qualitative research, with full service agencies & freelancing over many years, has provided me with extensive experience of working with people from all walks of life, interfacing between consumers/users of products/services & the worlds of business/government - it requires understanding at inter & intra personal levels.

Person-centred counselling & psychotherapy & other voluntary roles in a range of settings has provided me with another dimension, to see life from other's perspective & gain a deep understanding of what it means to them personally with acceptance, respect & without judgement.

Currently, I split work between the two - (i) sensitive qualitative research, & (ii) counselling & psychotherapy with a rape & sexual abuse charity & with another charity offering therapeutic support to people appearing in a public inquiry. I also provide 'Pre-Trial Therapy' training workshops & continue to volunteer as a mediator with Mediation & Community support in Warwickshire.
My volunteering, counselling & psychotherapy experience includes:

-
18 years as a Victim Support volunteer supporting those affected by serious crime & latterly a restorative justice facilitator.
-
BA Hons. in Person-Centred Counselling & Psychotherapy at Warwick University, followed by 13 years working as a counsellor in a range of settings:
-
both a primary & a secondary school,
-
a category C male prison, Read about this here
-
a hospice with adult patients & their family members - adults & children - 1:1, groups & workshops,
-
a rape & sexual abuse charity - in person & online,
-
an agency supporting people appearing in a public inquiry.
-
-
4 years as mediator volunteer at Mediation & Community Support - between neighbours or amongst a local community.
